In MY Mailbox #3: The since I've been gone issue

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren to spotlight what books we've received for the week.

This is a few weeks in one because as you know I have just finished my finals. All of this means a really big haul!
I got a ton of wonderful books!

FOR REVIEW
From NETGALLEY

FROM THE LIBRARY

SUMMARY:

Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?

Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan’s life. She’s stuck at JFK, late to her father’s second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon to be step-mother that Hadley’s never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport’s cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he’s British, and he’s in seat 18C. Hadley’s in 18A.

Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver’s story will make you believe that true love finds you when you’re least expecting it.

I HAVE Found the joys of the LIBRARY! It has literally been years since I've been to the Public Library and I'm never leaving it again!

SUMMARY:

A hidden truth.
Mortal enemies.
Doomed love.

Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.

Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away—if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.

Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide.

CAN'T WAIT to jump into Firelight! I love dragons.

I've already started The Statistical probability of Love at First Sight! I've finished 3 of the review books so look out for the reviews!!!

Romantic Review: Scandal Becomes Her

Title: Scandal Becomes Her

Author: Shirlee Busbee

Pages: 384 pages, paperback

Summary:

New York Times bestselling author Shirlee Busbee weaves the intricate, unforgettable story of a chance meeting, a forced marriage—and the surprise of a love so passionate it cannot be denied...

Love Is Sweetest When It's Unexpected

Nell Anslowe and Julian, Earl of Wyndham, are an unlikely couple in every respect. Injured in a riding accident ten years ago, Nell was left with a fiancĂ© who abandoned their engagement and the firm belief that she will never marry. The abrupt end of Julian's unhappy marriage formed his resolve to remain a bachelor until the end of his days. But as Julian chases down his reckless stepsister, he seeks shelter from a summer storm in a cottage—and finds it occupied by Nell, who has escaped from a fortune-seeking libertine bent on carrying her off to Gretna Green. Discovered together by Nell's family, the couple's hasty wedding is the only way to save Nell from scandal. But the polite union each of them expects soon ignites into something much more powerful...

SO HIT OR MISS

Romance and a thrilling murder mystery! What more can you want in a Historical Romance?!! I love that this wasn't your normal romantic read. It was a combination of sizzle and thrill.

In the mist of abduction, Nell the heroine is found by Julian Earl of Wyndham. But Scandal isn't the only thing Nell and Julian have to worry about. Nell is plagued with nightmares. When a woman is found dead it seems Nell's nightmares are anything but.

This was such a nice read. This is my first Busbee novel and I find I love her writing style. Nell is a spunky and strong character that has just enough flaws to make her relatable. She is perfect for Julian who is such a strong (and extremely hot!!! *fans myself*) character.

You can see the love grow between Julian and Nell. They start off as strangers and grow before are eyes. You see everything from jealousy to lust to unbelievable soul stirring love.

This story has many different twitst and turns that I loved. There way always a new plot at to be found, more mystery added to the story. Through the various sub plots and themes you really get the sense of danger and mystery.

And on top of everything else, this story was So STEAMY!!! I loved that the book showed the ups and downs of marriage. And when the marriage was up so was the hotness level! Definitely a keeper in my books.

REVIEW: The Selection

Title: The Selection

Author: Kiera Cass

Pages:  327 pages, Hardcover

Published: April 24th 2012

Favorite Quote:

“. . .true love is usually the most inconvenient kind.”
Kiera Cass, The Selection

Summary:

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

                         SO HIT OR MISS

When I first picked up this book, I admit I thought it would be just an okay book. But boy was I wrong!

First off this book reminded me so much of my favorite story as a child, The Princess and the pea. This had some really fond elements that made me think back to that story. If your a fan of reality t.v. shows, dating games, or dystopian novels, you will definitely love this novel. It takes all the best elements from these topics and makes for an easy fun read. I really think this book will be enjoyable to many different people.

Although this is in the voice of America, you get a lot of strong male prospective from Prince Maxon. (I love that.)

The writing had a clear voice. I knew, with each word I read, where exactly each character stood, and I definitely appreciated that. There was no guessing around about any ones feelings. In that way I quickly came to fall in love with the characters.

America was an interesting character. I loved her straight forwardness and her general outlook. Her honesty with Prince Maxon is really what develops there character relationship so quickly, I think. Speaking of Prince Maxon, yeah I am totally a fan. I loved his character so much!!!!

But this brings me to another point. LOVE TRIANGLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At the beginning of the story I was totally okay with the love triangle aspects. Without it there would have been something lacking. But after the initial resolving of it, WHY IN THE WORLD DID IT COME BACK!! -__-

I was reading the final chapters of The Selection pulling on my hair, basically on pins and needles. With Aspen back in the picture everything could come tumbling down! But at the end all I could think about was reading the next installment and finding out what happens. I just was left with a sense of NEEDING to continue the story.

Ms. Cass sure got my attention!
